Michelle arrives at MK after transitioning from a lengthy career in both the large-firm world and in running her own firm, choosing MK because of its nationally renowned status as a top-tier Family Law practice. She is dual licensed and takes a problem-solving approach to her cases by attempting to avoid litigation and focusing more on collaboration between parties, often resulting in a more amicable outcome that is customized to a client’s needs.

With 17 years of experience, Michelle Kniess has earned a reputation in the legal community for her compassion and integrity, and she has been honored for her outstanding client service, including being named to the annual Super Lawyers® and Best Lawyers® listings. She was also selected by her peers as a Top 10 Attorney Under 40 by the National Academy of Family Law Attorneys.
A 2002 graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Ms. Kniess earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management. She later attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison Law School, where she obtained her Juris Doctor in 2005. She is admitted to practice before all Minnesota and Wisconsin state courts, as well as before the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota. She is a rule 114 qualified neutral mediator and a Minnesota Parenting Consultant — and as a divorced single mother herself, Michelle Kniess is acutely familiar with the situations in which many of her clients find themselves.
