Michelle Kniess focuses her practice on family law in Minnesota and Wisconsin, and she performs ADR services in Minnesota. Ms. Kniess takes a problem-solving approach to her cases, and advises clients in avoiding litigation to the extent possible. She is a member of the Collaborative Law Institute, where clients agree to embark on a divorce journey designed to take place outside of the courtroom.
Prior to jointing Messerli Kramer, Ms. Kniess owned a multi-attorney boutique family law firm for almost nine years: Kniess Law, LLC. As a prior business litigator, and past business owner, she understands the added complexities of business ownership in divorce. As a divorced single mother of two, she also knows how challenging the process of family law can be for the individuals involved.

A 2002 graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Ms. Kniess earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management. She later attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison Law School, where she obtained her Juris Doctor in 2005. She is admitted to practice before all Minnesota and Wisconsin state courts as well as before the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota. Ms. Kniess is also a rule 114 qualified neutral mediator, a Minnesota Parenting Consultant, and is a qualified MSC and SENE/FENE provider.
