Messerli & Kramer P.A. is pleased to announce that Katy Sen will join its 12-member government affairs team in St. Paul, effective November 2, 2015. Sen has served on Governor Mark Dayton’s staff since 2012, first as Senior Policy Advisor and currently as Deputy Chief of Staff. She is a graduate of Harvard with a master’s degree in public policy. Sen’s decade of legislative and executive branch experience in the areas of tax policy, bonding and federal and state government issues makes her an ideal fit for Messerli & Kramer’s proactive, bipartisan approach to lobbying on behalf of clients.

“Ms. Sen has an impressive background in policy development and execution, team leadership and consensus building, both in her work with the Minnesota House of Representatives and Governor Dayton’s administration,” noted Nancy Haas, Chair of Messerli & Kramer’s Government Relations Group. “We recognize a tremendous opportunity to have her on our team to enhance our successful legislative relations practice and strategize on future bonding, tax, and legislative issues.”

With a leading government relations practice in the State of Minnesota, Messerli & Kramer has long influenced state policy, politics and economic growth, according to John Lang, Messerli & Kramer’s President. “Our government affairs division is just a block from the Capitol. Professionals like Katy Sen align with our day-to-day engagement with government to accomplish results for our public and corporate clients.”

Sen will continue to serve as Deputy Chief of Staff through October 8, 2015. Her major initiatives while serving in the Governor’s Office have included overseeing development and grassroots support for the Governor’s biennial and capital budgets, providing strategic and policy advice and coordinating with federal representatives in Washington. With the House of Representatives DFL Caucus, 2005-2012, Sen served as a consultant and then Director of Research, leading a team to provide legislative guidance on issues ranging from economic development, transportation and health and human services to energy, K-12 education and higher education for the state.

“I look forward to serving the citizens of Minnesota and helping to shape public policy in a new way,” Sen said. “Working with Governor Dayton, Lt. Governor Smith and the talented staff in the Governor’s Office has been an amazing experience. I am grateful for their support as I move into another stage of my career.”

“Katy provided tremendous expertise, dedication, and leadership to our office. I will greatly miss her wise counsel,” said Governor Mark Dayton. “I wish her the very best in her future endeavors, and I thank her for her outstanding service to Minnesota.”
