John Apitz is a shareholder in Messerli Kramer’s Government Relations group. He is acknowledged for his deep understanding of government affairs and for his ability to successfully guide clients through the often complex maze of legislative processes.
John has gained his knowledge of government dealings through his extensive involvement with federal and state agencies and representation of clients before state and local governments. He began his career on the staff of the late U.S. Senator Hubert H. Humphrey, and later held high level positions with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Minnesota Department of Commerce and the Office of the Minnesota Attorney General.
Recognized for his strength in strategic planning and communications, John has worked on numerous campaigns, served as the campaign manager to a former Congressman and as a campaign director for a former St. Paul Mayor and U.S. Senator. He is proud to represent great leaders and frequently consults with local and state officials on campaigns and grassroots efforts.
Since joining Messerli Kramer in 1989, John has represented numerous private companies and public entities. His notable successes include securing funding for the Minnesota Railroad Service Improvement program, creation of the ARMER (Allied Radio Matrix for Emergency Response) statewide emergency public safety communications system, implementing an agricultural lien notification system and securing funding of numerous exhibits that enhance the Minnesota Zoo.
John has served on the Board of Directors for the History Theatre, a professional theatre in downtown St. Paul, since 1993. He is a passionate advocate for the theatre and has served as its President, Vice President and Secretary.
